Evidence indicates the Atlantic Conveyor could be shutting down.  The consequences of this could be severe, not least for the UK, which would become very much colder if it lost its influx of heat from the Gulf Stream.  (Finder's credit to [livejournal.com profile] rbos)

We always joke that Finland is West Siberia. In fact, we enjoy cold temperate climate. Without the Gulf Stream, however... tundra it will become.

Very, very bad for Ireland. Ireland actually has a subtropical climate at the same latitude as British Columbia, thanks to the full-on effect of the Gulf Stream. Which is why it's a great agricultural area.
