Y'know all those folks who have been financially supporting Terri Schiavo's parents to fund their legal battle?  Well, the parents just sold the address list to a direct-marketing firm.

Way to thank people for their support, huh?

It's hard for me to say whether the parents should be faulted for this. On the one hand, it's understandable that they would want to do anything they could to save their daughter (ignoring for the moment whether or not it's possible), and so it's easy to believe that this desire could have been exploited by someone promising to raise more money to keep the fight going if the parents just sign on the dotted line (as suggested by Pamela Hennessy in the article). On the other hand, they are trying to keep her alive against what so many have said would have been her wishes, so it's possible that even if they were able to look at the deal rationally, they might not have any problem with the idea of raising extra money for the fight at the expense of their supporters' privacy, other people's wishes be damned.

But either way, the folks buying the list are taking advantage of a tragic situation. Poor form.
