...I gave my 30 days notice on my apartment today, and made arrangements with the used furniture store I bought most of my furniture from to come buy it all back on April 5.  I guess I'll be getting everything packed over the weekend, and shipping whatever won't go in the car ahead on April 4, which is my last day at my current job.  Tonight's entertainment has been packing up stuff to ship ahead and figuring out what to cook to make sure I use up as much as possible of the perishable food before April 5.  I already just shut down my wireless subnet; might as well have done that weeks ago -- I wasn't using it anyway, because plugging in the wireless card brings my Thinkpad 600E to its knees.

I hate interrupt-driven living.  I hate feeling rootless.

Don't think of it as bailing out. Think of it as swimming for shore.

So does this mean I get the Thinkpad?

You aren't rootless. You're just a balboa tree. Your roots are in the future/air.

Well, they may call the balboa the upside-down tree, but it only looks as though its roots are in the air ... Spanish moss really does, but I don't think I've ever seen myself as an epiphyte. If my roots are in the future -- well, the future never comes. It's always the future.

We can see about the Thinkpad later. What I'd prefer to do is to find something to replace it that doesn't have the same battery-architecture problems (and maybe a faster CPU, too).
