Between Christmas and New Year, as previously mentioned here, I bought a car on an interest-free loan from my parents.  The dealership warned me that DMV was currently running way behind on issuing titles, and it could be as much as six months before I received my title.

That was about six weeks ago.  I received my title in the mail today.  What I still DON'T have is plates .... I've never before had the title arrive before the plates.

Go figure....

Oh... my. Here in Missouri, you go to the Department of Revenue office (there are several offices in convenient locations here in St Louis) and do the paperwork right there at the counter. You hand them a check for the sales tax and registration, and they hand you the plates. In your hand. Right there at the counter.

Of course, if you have ordered vanity plates it's a different story...

California started the long slide down the tubes in about 1975. It's probably just a coincidence that I left California in 1975...

That's pretty much how NC works, too. CA is overloaded, that's the problem.
