[livejournal.com profile] micheinnz, whether she intended to or not, reminded me to mention last night's culinary discovery.  Short and sweet: teriyaki plus chipotle.  I discovered it while messing around with some shrimp.  I sautéed the shrimp in butter in my wok, then added about a teaspoon of McIlhenny's smoked chipotle Tabasco, stir-fried them a bit longer to coat them with the chipotle, then added a couple of tablespoons of Yamasa teriyaki.  Cooked them for a few more minutes, took them out of the pan, cooked the remaining sauce down a bit more to thicken it and poured it over them.

Teriyaki and chipotle together turns out to be wonderfully synergistic.  Go.  Try it.  You'll never want to cook plain teriyaki shrimp again.  Trust me on this.  Next time, I figure I'm trying it on some chicken.  Then maybe beef....

I have a bad feeling that I'll be unable to aquire either smoked chipotle Tabasco or Yamasa teriaki (though I'd guess if anything the Yamasa is a better bet given our proximity to the orient).

I know I won't be able to get either or both. If worst comes to worst I'll buy some chipotle peppers (which I know I can get), very finely chop some, and add to Soy Vey teriyaki sauce.

Soy Vey is excellent teriyaki. :) I should probably have gotten that instead of the Yamasa, actually.
And chipotle is roasted/smoked jalapeños, iirc. But I don't know what else goes into the chipotle Tabasco. It is, in the last resort, mailable....

how much do you think it would cost me to ship it to you and would NZ let it through?

I'm buying a bottle and shipping it to friends in NH. So it wouldn't be too much extra effort to send you one too. If you are sure you can get it without NZ confiscating it.

The reason I'm worried is that a friend had some Constant Comment tea shipped to AU and had it confiscated.

It'd prolly come through... Generally, if it's sealed, it's good. No clue what shipping would run though. I'd guess 10-15 bucks but who knows... Don't stress it if it's inconvenient.
