1:  Nylon spatulas.
You can't use'em for anything.  They melt as soon as they touch a hot pan,and then you have black smears of nylon on your pans and little bits of nylon in your food.  Why the hell do stores sell them?

2:  Starter checks.
You know, the ones the bank gives you when you open a new account. They have numbers starting in the single or occasionally double digits, and the bank gives you about ten to tide you over until your check order arrives.  Virtually nobody accepts the things.  Why do they still bother giving them out?  Wouldn't it be better and easier to have a system set up to emboss your ATM card on the spot?

I had a third one, but I don't remember what it was.

Are you talking about spatulas or turners?

I have lots of nylon turners, and they're fine.

I have a few nylon spatulas, and they're nearly useless; they won't conform to the sides of the bowl I'm trying to scrape.

I have one of those starter checks in my wallet: it's how I remember my account number.

Uh, I guess that would be "turner". Sometimes I still can't keep straight what folks over here call things I know by different names. :)
But I picked up a steel one yesterday, so all is good.

While I have your attention ... what can you tell me about VNV Nation tickets? :)

Almost nothing. The show is at the Fillmore on Thursday, and tickets are available through Ticketmaster. But I don't know if we have ours yet (that would be a good thing to find out once S. awakens) or how much they cost.

Figured it'd probably be Ticketbastard. And as well I asked, because I thought it was the 7th, not the 6th. (Which is the same day my DSL local loop is being installed by Covad, and the same day I'm taking my car to the dealer for scheduled service and inspeaction to make sure there's nothing I don't know about.)

What variety of nylon are you using? You need to find things that are specifically labeled as "high-temperature" nylon. I've had plastic pieces melt, too, but the nylon tools I've got work great. Or you can splurge and get silicone, which works well too.

And I agree with you on the starter check thing.

I've never seen anything labelled as "high-temperature" nylon. I tend to buy either stainless-steel or Bakelite cooking utensils and skip the whole problem, though the high-temperature silicones are an option too.

(And I still miss my big green Bakelite wok spoon, which I managed to smash one day in a fit of acute frustration at having managed to completely ruin supper.)

Starter checks are suitable for paying bills that you send in envelopes (like credit cards and utilities).

A point. And I'll probably be using one to transfer some cash to my State Farm Bank account for [livejournal.com profile] cymrullewes.

fyi - vnv tix are $25 + 7.55/ticket "convenience fee" + ~ $4 processing fee. so really more like $37 when purchased through ticketmaster. unfortunately, the only other place to get them is at the fillmore on the night of the show (6th) as long as it isn't sold out. if it isn't, the tix would really only be $25.

Yeah, I just went to ticketbastard and found the fees half the price of the ticket.
Are you guys going to make it to the show?
