[livejournal.com profile] sierra_nevada found this earlier tod...... well, yesterday.  (Sorry, I've been preoccupied.)

"We cannot simply suspend or restrict civil liberties until the War of Terror is over, because the War on Terror is unlikely ever to be truly over," Judge Gerald Tjoflat wrote for the three-member court.  "September 11, 2001, already a day of immeasurable tragedy, cannot be the day liberty perished in this country."

I find it immensely reassuring to see that at least part of the legal system is paying attention, is taking notice, and is not afraid to stand up to the panic-mongering tactics of the present administration.

My only bitch is that it's taking three years for a few people in government to discover the same thing that I said TWO YEARS ago, in my one-year Impressions posting (http://groups.google.com/groups?selm=q1mvnuocstvspboc98i6jh2iv7vlvf9236%404ax.com). Now that this judge has realized it, how long will we have to wait fo other government people to follow suit?
