An interesting and surprising development

Yesterday, September 13, the AW/hicap ban sunsetted.

Today, September 14, effective immediately, Massachussetts, one of the most gun-unfriendly states in the US:-

• Extended the terms of FID (Firearms ID Card) and LTC (License To Carry) issued on or after today from 4 to 6 years;
• Instituted a grace period of 90 days following the expiration of a license;
• Created an exemption to the LTC renewal fee for active law enforcement officers;
• And established a firearm license review board which will review applications from individuals convicted of certain misdemeanor offenses who are disqualified under current law.

Massachusetts' own state AW ban remains in place.

Update:  I'm advised that these changes were actually in place a month or so ago, but did not take effect until today.
