drnebula reports that Steve died earlier today following an automobile accident.  Though I knew him only online and we didn't talk often, Steve had one of the brightest and sharpest minds I've been privileged to run across.  By failing to meet him in person, I feel I have missed a singular opportunity, which will now never come again.

So long, Steve.  We are diminished by your absence.

Actually, it's dr_nebula, technoshaman, jenkitty and vernard who could really use the hugs. They knew sdfischer much better and for much longer than I did.
