Earlier this evening, we got notice that there's a 24-hour hurricane warning active all up the NC coast.  So far, all we've seen from it is a band of heavy rain.

Ten minutes ago, I got email from my parents in Spokane, Washington, almost as far from here as it's possible to be in the contiguous US, saying that a tree fell on their house in a sudden windstorm.

(They're both OK, but it was a close thing.  We're awaiting a more detailed damage report.  They just had to cancel the trip to England they were scheduled to leave on tomorrow and call insurance, roofers etc instead.)
