The end of .... fish & chips?!?

According to the World Wildlife Fund, cod could be overfished into extinction by 2019, fifteen years from now, unless governments set and enforce much stricter cod fishing quotas.

There will still be fish and chips in New Zealand -- we use other species than cod. The most common is dogfish (shark), which is nice, followed by my favourite -- blue cod (which isn't a true cod but a local deep-water fish).

Oh, sure. Fish and chips used to be as often haddock as it was cod even back in England. (Or rockfish or any of several others.) I was just being somewhat flippant - plus, it does sorta help get the point across, I hope.

It's the side effect of oceanic strip-mining. When you consider how many billion baby codfish these guys pump out every year (cod was one of the most prolific of fish), you begin to realize how severely we've f****d the world's oceans.

Oh yeah, absolutely. That was sorta my point -- we're progressively sweeping the seas clean of life, and when we finish the job, we're going to be in all kinds of deep shit.
