The Perpetua Power Puck is a solid-state thermoelectric power supply with no moving parts, that can run low-power electronic devices off of ambient thermal gradients as small as 1°-2° C.  The Power Puck weighs 60 grams and can supply regulated voltages from 1.5V to 3.3V.

btw, not sure if you have cable, but there is a new series out now called The Colony. Basically a reality tv show based on the premise of urban survival following an apocalyptic event. Several people left to survive in a somewhat deserted urban environment as it might be found after some cataclysmic event. Granted, it's typical reality tv fodder, but the projects to build sustainability and the ideas of things are interesting.
