[livejournal.com profile] micheinnz stumped me with a first-line meme post, blast her — by the time I got up this morning and logged on, the only three out of 32 that I know had already been guessed.  Curses!  (Or SLang, if your screen-library tastes run that way.)

So I'm getting revenge.  (Songs with no lyrics noted and skipped.)

Mark-up:  Strikeout = guessed, italic = partly guessed.

1.   I am the next stage

2.   Imtheochaidh soir is siar¹

3.   Do I look the same to you?

4.   Come on lover, make a switch  The Cars, Looking for Love

5.   Been so long since I've felt the sun

6.   I got the attitude

7.   From early days of infancy, through trembling years of youth

[instrumental:  Anvil of Crom, Conan the Barbarian soundtrack, Basil Poledouris]

8.   Seasons of the sun won't suffice

9.   Begin the day with a friendly voice  Rush, Spirit of Radio

[instrumental:  Preacher on a Pony, Boiled in Lead, from Old Lead

10.  How gentle was the breeze

11.  It's still getting worse after everything I've tried  Nine Inch Nails, Sanctified

12.  You could have a steam train  Peter Gabriel, Sledgehammer

[instrumental:  Black Watch Polka, The Massed Bands, Pipes and Drums of Her Majesty's Royal Marines and the Black Watch]

13.  Alan Vega.  Suicide.  Ghostrider.  Ghostrider.

14.  Out of the same back door into the same back yard again  Shriekback, Health And Knowledge And Wealth And Power

15.  Take my hand, you know I'll be there

16.  There is a place I was born

17.  I had skin like leather and the diamond-hard look of a cobra²

18.  Your love is like a tidal wave

19.  I'm coming down, coming down like a monkey  Genesis, Tonight, Tonight, Tonight

[instrumental:  Silent Sorrow in Empty Boats, Genesis, from The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway]

20.  You got me on the run, you got it your way³

21.  Like the dust that settles all around me

22.  All I need is a TV show

23.  Nobody knows what it's like to be the bad man  The Who, Behind Blue Eyes

[instrumental:  Filigree and Shadow, This Mortal Coil, from Filigree and Shadow]

[instrumental:  Oxygene (Part IV), Jean-Michel Jarre, from Oxygene (of course)]

[instrumental:  Liebestod, VNV Nation, from Futureperfect]

24.  Dreamtime begins

25.  I've never seen you looking so lovely as you did tonight  Chris de Burgh, Lady in Red

26.  You don't want me in your head  Ulcer, You don't want me in your head

27.  As we dwell inside the safe zones that we've made

28.  There's something solid forming in the air

29.  Here am I who while away the mornings since you've gone

30.  Our time has come, age of the hammerhead  Shriekback, Hammerheads

31.  In the street where we live there's a place called desire  Yes, Save My Heart

32.  As far as the eye could see

A couple of these may be dead giveaways.  Oh well; a couple of them are probably going to be real bastards.  It evens out.

Disclaimer:  Nothing in this playlist was front-loaded.  The entire playlist was randomly generatedwhen I logged in this morning by DigitalDJ.

[1]  Muahahahahahahaaaa!  Go for it!  ...Well, OK, I'll give you the English translation:  "I will go east and west."

[2]  I actually know of two artists for this one.  I will accept either, but bonus points for getting the original artist.

[3]  There's a sort of spoken ... whatsit that comes before this line. So one might possibly argue that this is not the actual first line.  But I never really considered it part of the song, so....  Life is hard.

23: Behind Blue Eyes? No idea on artist.

Wow, I'm stumped by you AND [livejournal.com profile] micheinnz. Good job. :-)
Saturday, September 27th, 2008 04:56 pm (UTC)
Well, that's correct as far as it goes, at any rate. :) Hint: The song was actually written about the band's lead singer.
Saturday, September 27th, 2008 06:06 pm (UTC)
The artist is the Who.

...oddly enough, I *JUST* finished playing that on Rock Band.

Like, finished the set with it, and sat down to check on lj updates...

Heh. :)
I expected you to get quite a few of these, actually.

12. Sledgehammer; Peter Gabriel.

19. Tonight, Tonight, Tonight; Genesis

25. Lady in Red; Chris (something). I used to know that...
Saturday, September 27th, 2008 05:37 pm (UTC)
I have to rate that about 2.7/3. I'll give you benefit of the doubt on the artist: Chris de Burgh. :)
Saturday, September 27th, 2008 06:11 pm (UTC)
11. Nine Inch Nails - Sanctified
31. Yes- Save my Heart

30. Hammerheads -- Shriekback

Sunday, September 28th, 2008 04:08 pm (UTC)
I didn't think either of those would get past you :)
Monday, September 29th, 2008 01:50 am (UTC)
26 is one of the Primals by Ulcer.
4 is the Cars but I can't bring the title to mind.
Monday, September 29th, 2008 02:21 am (UTC)
Both artists are correct, but both Primals are instrumentals.
Monday, September 29th, 2008 02:44 am (UTC)
26. You Don't Want Me in Your Head - Ulcer. :-p
4. Looking for Love - The Cars

I would like to do this meme as well. When are you going to reinstall the mabolgamp?
Monday, September 29th, 2008 03:16 am (UTC)
Yup, I pegged that one as the real dead giveaway of the lot, but Ulcer's little enough known I figured I could get away with leaving it in :)
