Shades of Ghost Recon, anyone?

Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon, an Ubisoft squad-based combat game, is based on a scenario involving Russian ultranationalists, strife in Georgia and the South Ossetian Autonomous Region, and Russia going to war against Georgia and seeking to annex it.

Well, right now it seems there's strife between Georgia and the South Ossetian Autonomous Region, Russia is on the verge of going to war against Georgia, and Georgia has accused Russia of trying to annex Georgia and Abkhazia...

My recollection is Ghost Recon came out in around 2000 or 2001.
