The innate perversity of inanimate objects

Got out of bed this morning to go to the bathroom.  Reached for my crutches.  Started to shift my grip on the right crutch.  It slipped out of my grasp somehow, toppled towards me where I couldn't catch it because it was on the wrong side of my arm, dropped with something of the determined momentum of a felled tree, and hit with a single point of contact ... directly across the bridge of my right foot.

OW.

But as I began reading, I was afraid this was going to end with you falling, so thank goodness I was wrong!

There wasn't any danger of falling. I was almost-but-not-quite still leaning against the bed. But for a moment, I expected to either see blood welling from my foot when I looked down, or feel that "Oh crap, I just broke a bone" ache.
