mrquacker found this (original post here) on the Daily Mirror site. It's the account of a British Muslim who went to Pakistan shortly after 9/11 to study Islam, strayed into Afghanistan by mistake on his way from there to Turkey, and spent two years in a US internment camp. How the US can treat people like this without any proof of wrongdoing, and then stand up and tell the world with a straight face that we're fighting for the cause of freedom, is beyond me. At the risk of invoking Godwin's Law, even the Nazis didn't torment Jews in the concentration camps by deliberately offending their religious beliefs.

What I wonder is that Camp Delta and Camp X-ray have been so well out of news after the first few months.

Frankly, I don't believe his charges. *someone* is fulla shit, since the recent big complaint from the Red Cross about the prisoners at GitMo is that they're getting too fat from eating too well. Who's got more motivation to make shit up? The Red Cross or some guy who was just released from captivity for 2 years? Also, his account directly contridicts the statments of the kids that were released last month (who're back home now).

Perhaps not the same scale, but still deliberate religious offence.
