When "Pure" means "Blended", and other bits and pieces

Good news for aficionados of single-malt Scotch everywhere:  Diageo has conceded defeat and announced that it will no longer sell Cardhu Pure Malt, a blended Scotch whisky.  Diageo replaced its Cardhu Single Malt with the cheaper Cardhu Pure Malt blend last year, in an evident attempt to mislead Scotch drinkers into thinking it was a single malt and paying single-malt prices for it.  Diageo will now be re-introducing the Cardhu Single Malt brand, which really is a single malt.  Nice try, guys, but no banana.

Another kill for Mars?  Evidence is beginning to indicate rapid fluctuations in the Martian atmosphere may have caused the Beagle 2 probe to crash into Mars after failing to deploy its parachute and/or airbags on time.

Longer life:  A new development offering dramatically higher efficiency from hydrogen-powered fuel cells promises longer run time for laptops.
