If the music's good, I'll certainly pay $5, but "if the music's good" is sometimes an awefully huge caveat...
Especially with major labels, where as long as they have two or three likely radio hits to boost sales, they'll happily fill up the rest of the disc with any old crap to spread out the "good" material over a larger number of releases. "Fuck the customer, it's all about our bottom line."
If I was in the music business, I'd be inclined to say something like "Hey, I just released this new collection of music, download as few or as many tracks from the collection as you want, fifty cents a track, or get the whole collection for five bucks. If you want it on a physical disk with jewel box, label and liner insert, that'll be ten bucks shipped within the continental US."
