From [livejournal.com profile] tanngrisnir comes a pointer to a seven-minute Pythonesque monologue on religion by stand-up comic Marcus Brigstocke.

"I'd like to start this week with a request, and this one goes out to the followers of the three Abrahamic religions, to the Muslims, Christians, and Jews.  It's just a little thing, really, but do you think that when you've finished smashing up the world and blowing each other to bits and demanding special privileges while you do it, do you think that maybe the rest of us could sort of have our planet back?"

There's more than 3 Abrahamic religions. Those are just the well known ones :-)

(technically, the bahai are as well, as are the kurdish "cult of angels" religions (and, really, the bahai are to the cult of angels what christianity is to judaism)... and then there's a less known religion, whose name escapes me, in the palestine area that mixes elements of all of the above)

Druze, by chance?

It might be the Druze ... their wikipedia entry doesn't leave me saying "that's not them", but I don't remember the specific name at all, and that didn't ring a bell. It's been like 15+ years since I read anything about them.

The Druze appear to be an offshoot of Islam, though, and the impression I had of the group I was thinking of was that they were their own thing. But 15 years ago, I barely knew anything about them ... and now I remember even less :-}

Thanks for mentioning their name though. Nice addition to my spiritual vocabulary :-) (and reading about them lead to some other interesting/useful stuff)

Wasn't Marcus Brigstocke the same chap who came up with the oft-quoted bit about "If video games influenced behavior, those of us who grew up in the 80s would all be running around darkened rooms listening to tinny repetitive electronic music and gobbling pills"?

I'll have to listen to the bit on religion later, as it's time for me to run out the door to work.
