A fun factoid:  Yes, IBM really has been making computers since before Bill Gates was in diapers.  (Eleven years before, in fact.)

Speaking of such, I hit the Computer History Museum in Mountain View yesterday. There's a blog post to follow, but I was very impressed by it, along with seeing the Harvard Mark I.

Strictly speaking, the Hollerith Tabulators (1890) are the first IBM machines, depending on your definition of computers.

I had digital computers in mind, rather than mechanical calculating machines. I don't know much about the Hollerith Tabulators ... I should look them up.

There's one made of Meccano in NZ that was used for various purposes (can't remember what). It's still around but not in active service any more.
