Probably safer to be a citizen than a "foreign national", even of a friendly nation. Besides, I have nothing really to lose -- the US will require me to give up UK citizenship to become a US citizen, but the UK does not recognize the right of any foreign government, including the US, to require US citizens to renounce their citizen ship. So I can have de facto, even if not de jure, dual citizenship.
