One more, even MORE complete disassembly, which:
- allowed me to clean several parts I haven't previously been able to clean effectively, and
- enabled the discovery of a dislodged microswitch in the media sensor for tray 1, accounting for the spurious "Media in Tray 1, remove" error that manifested earlier.
After properly securing the switch and reassembling everything, I've just printed a full-page photo, best quality, heavy coated photo paper from Tray 1, and it worked fine, though on the first try it pulled a sheet of plain paper from Tray 2 as well (I think tray 2 was overfilled). The color matching leaves rather a lot to be desired for photo printing, unfortunately, even in best quality on photo paper and using a 9300K Trinitron-compatible color-matching profile on the printer. Even in best quality, photo colors are still relatively dark and muddy.
