I'm sorry. vidicon said The Superdome, in particular, needs a tending force of shallow-draft barges

and I parsed it as "needs a tending force of shallow draft dodgers" and I thought, "but Bush is on his way..."

All sorts of hilarity ensued at chez neph.

Not to make light of the situation, but, well, this is me. When you can't even wrap your brain around it to cry, you can only laugh.

A couple little tidbits of news that drifted my way this morning that I haven't seen elsewhere:

1. Bell South is closing its last remaining facility in New Orleans (they cited the "aggression and hostility" of the looters). They also said connectivity would be limited to "satellite phones"

2. In excess of 20 miles of railroad tracks north and east of New Orleans have been totally washed away.

3. Lots of sharks, alligators and venomous snakes swimming about.

If we're really lucky, the sharks, 'gators and moccasins will take out the looters.

I saw the news last night. Similar to the railroad item. Highway causeways out of/into town? It is to laugh. There will be no road connections for a long time. The aeriel view was pretty impressive. Large stretches gone. Support piers with roadbed either gone or on-edge in the water. You don't rebuild that sort of stuff easily, and it takes a lot of time/money.
