[First senator] "Voters are angry at high gasoline prices. And they don't want oil exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, and they're tired of us spending their retirements on the Middle East war. How are we going to solve this?"
[Second senator] "Why don't we just buy'em off with $100 each of their own money? The dumb schmucks fall for it every time. They actually think we're doing them a favor -- they still haven't figured out that we took it from them in the first place, or that we'll just take it right back again with the next bill we pass. We can keep this up FOREVER."
Still, at least it promises to take some tax breaks away from the oil companies. For now. Maybe. Until we can make it up to them some other way.
