unixronin: Galen the technomage, from Babylon 5: Crusade (Default)

So yeah, I finally made it to a VNV Nation gig.  Don't ask me why I had never really internalized the fact that VNV Nation is just two guys, because I don't have a good explanation, and I'd have to sorta mumble and look stupid about it.  I have to admit the opening act, Coder23, didn't really do much for me; sure, the music was OK, but it just didn't go anywhere.... it just sort of was.

VNV Nation took probably three or four numbers to really get going, but once they hit their stride, they put on a great gig that seemed much shorter than my watch said it was, even after two encores.  Ronan is a madman on stage, but in a good way.  There isn't too much I can add to what other folks such as [livejournal.com profile] paeyl have already said about the performance, so I'm not going to try.  The preview material from the upcoming new CD (which Ronan said he hoped would be out in early April) sounds great.

I still want to know why wherever I moved to down the right side of the auditorium, everyone making their way down that side wanted to come through the spot I was standing on.  I'd move four feet to my left, and so would the stream of people.  I tried to dance some, stumbled repeatedly, and stepped backward on someone's toes at some point, but she said that was OK, she steps on her own toes all the time.  (I commented that my specialty is tripping on smooth level floors.)

All in all, for numerous reasons not all listed here, a great evening, in spite of the heavy rain I had to drive hone in (and refuel in).  Right up until I got home to my apartment and found that I'd dropped my apartment keys, probably at the Fillmore, possibly somewhere on Geary, possibly on Folsom, possibly in Daly City where I stopped for fuel.  I went to unlock the lower door, and found the pouch pocket I've been putting my door keys in open and empty.  Guess I won't be using that one for keys any more.....  A message has been left at the Fillmore business office, but it doesn't seem like anyone's there today.  I had to call security to let me in, and didn't get in until 0315 or, by the time I made a snack, to bed until 0400.  Ugh.

Guess I'm out $27 for a new set of keys....
