We were just given a Lexmark Z22 color printer off the Greenville Freecycle list. After a minor connection glitch with the Centronics connector on the printer end of the parallel cable (USB is also supported), it seems to work fine, with the exception that the single included color cartridge is shot. (As is the typical case with low-end inkjet printers, buying new ink cartridges is as expensive as buying a new printer.) The reviews we've found seem to indicate that it's slow on text compared to other printers of its class, but fast on photos (again relative to other similar printers), and it is 1200dpi.
We put a stack of used paper in it for nozzle cleaning in a doomed attempt to revive the ink cartridge. Wen rapidly found the formfeed button (she had a 50/50 shot -- there's only two physical controls, power and formfeed, to keep manufacturing cost down), and had great fun cycling the entire stack of paper through the printer. As each sheet emerged, she siezed it with great glee, brandished it high in triumph, then threw it on the floor.
