Upcoming road trip

Barring unforeseen circumstances, it appears I will be driving from California to New Hampshire starting on April 5, taking probably four or five days for the trip.  If you mapquest Sunnyvale, CA 94086 to Deerfield, NH 03037, you'll have a pretty good idea of my route.  I'll be passing by or close to locations including:

• Reno, Nevada
• Salt Lake City, Utah
• Cheyenne, Wyoming
• Lincoln, Nebraska
• Des Moines, Iowa
• Chicago, Illinois
• Erie, Pennsylvania
• Buffalo, New York
• Albany, New York
• Concord, New Hampshire

At various points along the way I'm undoubtedly going to be making stops for food, rest and sleep; my knees are bad, and I don't know how long I'll be able to drive each day.  It is MOST unlikely that I'll have any kind of 'net access while on the trip.  So, if anyone I know along my route would like to schedule a micro-RS for lunch, coffee, or a brainstorming session for world domination er, chat about the weather, let me know, and make sure I have a way to contact you off the net.

You be careful in the passes. It's probably late enough that, assuming you stay on routes that have "I" in their names, you'll probably be OK, but still...

Think you've missed several things ... and I'm pretty sure they've all been in my journal.

1. No more job here. Last day is 4/4.


2. Possible job asa build/release engineer at NearTek in Westborough MA, which I hope to find out about next week.


3. cymrullewes is now a contract project scheduler for Intel in Hudson MA, 13 miles from NearTek.

The plan is to commute from southern NH to avoid falling foul of MA's paranoid gun laws. We'll be hanging out with DJ Delorie until we can get a place of our own (which obviously will be sooner if I can get a job too ... otherwise, on the money she'll be making alone, we may have to apply for Section 8).

Sorry to be a rank newbiphile, but what is their particular schtick?

As I understand it, MA has permit to purchase/own which comes in two levels, there's a list of "approved" firearms, many firearms require the higher-level permit which (by the apparent intent of the law) is primarily for issue to clubs, automatic one-year suspension of your permit to own and fine of up to $10,000 for minor technical violations of any firearms law, etc, etc. It's unclear from the Massachusetts AG's site whether you're allowed to own anything that's not on the (rather short) approved list or not.

It may be a case in which enforcement of the law does not actually reflect the letter of the law (which state of affairs would of course be a legal morass itself), but every time I go to look at MA firearms laws I come away with the conclusion that they're worse than California. At least California only has a banned list. But then again, look what we're talking about here -- the home state of Ted Kennedy and John Kerry.
