Just an update to the other day's post: It transpires that Gov. Christie actually had a sound reason for only commuting Brian Aitken's sentence to time served rather than pardoning him outright. Two reasons, actually.
The first is that in order to be pardoned, Aitken would have to actually admit guilt.
The second is that if Christie pardons Aitken, Aitken cannot continue appealing to have his conviction overturned altogether.
So I take it back. It looks like Gov. Christie thought this through properly.
